Background Summary
Theresa is a Registered Psychotherapist with the CRPO (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario) and has over 25 years of experience working in the field of mental health and addictions in hospital and community settings.
She works from a strengths-based, client-centered, trauma-informed approach with her clients. She creates a safe, nonjudgemental space for her clients to explore their authentic selves. She sees her role as helping her clients achieve their goals by living in alignment with their values. People spend a lot of time ruminating about the past and worrying about the future and Theresa strives to help her clients to be more present in their own lives through mindfulness practices, acceptance and self-compassion.
She has extensive experience treating clients who are struggling with addiction and their loved ones. Addiction can take many forms including alcohol, drugs, gambling or gaming and Theresa works with her clients on their journey to explore the roots of these behaviours and develop healthier coping strategies. Loved ones of people with addictions are often on a roller coaster with them and benefit from their own support to learn how to set healthy boundaries and take care of themselves.
Theresa’s area of expertise also includes treating depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and relationship issues.
Fun Fact
I am frequently tempted to break into song when someone says something that reminds me of familiar song lyrics, but I fight the urge…most of the time. I love all kinds of puzzles and baking cookies.
