Background Summary
Helena is a registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist, and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from York University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto, completing her clinical internship at Women’s College Hospital.
In addition to her private practice she works on research studies at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre and Toronto General Hospital. She also volunteers as a peer-support counsellor at the Distress Centres Survivor Support program for individuals bereaved by suicide.
Helena takes an approach to therapy that is intersectional, feminist, client-centered, strength-based, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive. She is affirming of LGBTQ2S+ identities. She uses an emotion-focused, attachment theory lens taking a curious stance to encourage looking inward for answers and exploring patterns. Helena views clients as the experts of their own experience and aims to create a collaborative relationship that can foster healing, growth and empowerment.
