Background Summary

Maxine is a member of the Canadian Association of Social Workers and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Maxine graduated with a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies from the University of Toronto. Maxine’s career began as a trauma counsellor, working in shelters for women fleeing domestic violence and human trafficking. Maxine had also worked in community mental health, supporting underhoused and marginalized folks. Maxine’s practice is client centered, meaning collaboration is an integral part of her work. Maxine welcomes her clients’ identities, life experiences, values, and goals into the room when working together. Maxine’s style includes being transparent, direct, gentle, exploratory, and results oriented. Maxine would be a good choice for those who may be struggling with relationship challenges, mood disorders (anxiety, depression, etc.), shame, feelings of low self-worth, issues related to race, gender, sexuality, and identity, life transitions, chronic stress, and trauma. Maxine works with trauma informed, harm reduction, and intersectional lenses. Attachment, anti-oppressive, and psychodynamic theories heavily inform her practice. The modalities Maxine uses most include (but are not limited to) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Somatic Approaches, Mindfulness, and Solutions Focused Techniques. Maxine is also training to use EMDR in her practice, to support folks who have experienced trauma. When working with couples, Maxine uses the Gottman Method. Maxine is a member of both the 2SLGBTQIA and black community. She is affirming of queer, trans, and racialized identities.
