Background Summary

Mardi has over twenty years of experience working with children, youth, young adults, parents, and families. She has worked in various settings and roles, including live-in treatment, day treatment, in-home family support, parenting support, intake, group facilitation, and youth and family counseling, both directly and in management.

Mardi holds a Child and Youth Care Advanced Diploma from Cambrian College, a BA from York University, and an MSc in Child and Youth Care Studies from Strathclyde University, which included a dissertation on in-home family support. She has extensive training in attachment interventions (Modified Interaction Guidance), Trauma-Informed Practice, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Therapy, Collaborative Problem Solving, and Narrative Therapy.

Mardi is relationally based and strength-focused. She loves watching a child or family discover their own journey of building positive mental health and self-acceptance. Mardi has developed a deep understanding of neurodiversity and its connection to mental health and trauma.
Additionally, Mardi is a part-time professor with over ten years of experience at Humber Polytechnic in the Child and Youth Care program. She teaches about family dynamics, modalities of treatment, ethical practice, professionalism, work-integrated learning, relational approaches, trauma-informed care, anti-oppressive practice, and strength-based practice.
She is also a Coordinator of Family Services with a private organization that supports children, youth, adults, and families in-home and in-community with complex behavioural needs by matching them with Child and Youth Care Practitioners. Mardi also provides consultation to parents, schools, community programs, and other stakeholders to ensure that children receive the best support possible, addressing their needs with understanding, respect, and inclusion.

Fun Fact

Mardi is a self-described fish and loves everything about the water.  When she is not in or near the water, she can be found in the gym, with her two teenage children (when they come out of their rooms), or laughing at herself while being a terrible pickleball player.
