Background Summary

Lisa Goodman, MA (Counselling Psychology) is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with over 25 years of experience working with adolescents and adults who face complex issues related to mood, anxiety, traumatic stress, sexuality and gender identity, ADHD, disordered eating, chronic illness, and addiction. Lisa meets clients where they are. She helps clients to navigate issues and concerns; work with conflict and difficult emotions and behaviours; and refine existing skills and develop new strategies. Her work promotes client growth and resilience, and improves quality of life through strengthening relationships with oneself and with others.

Everyone is welcome in Lisa’s practice, including people of the global majority, the LGBTTQ community, on the autism spectrum, and all other intersections of identity. Lisa creates a space that is safe for authenticity, and actively integrates a lens of social justice and anti-oppression into her clinical work and her personal life. She has extensive training and experience in mindfulness-based (MBSR, MBCT, DBT), cognitive-behavioural, and insight-oriented modalities. She has a passion for neuroscience and other emerging evidence-based approaches, including neurofeedback and psychedelic therapy, and reviews research extensively.

Lisa is a warm and engaged supervisor and mentor, dedicated to fostering growth and development in mental health professionals. She uses a variety of tools to help build competence and confidence, including modelling and role play, review of recorded sessions, and the application of various theoretical approaches in complex case exploration. Lisa’s style is collaborative and dynamic, tailoring guidance to each supervisee's unique strengths and learning objectives, with a keen eye on client care, therapist self-care, ethical considerations, and professional development.

Lisa is committed to promoting mental health awareness and advocating for accessible, culturally competent care.
